Māori language week 2022 starts on 12 September. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Māori Language petition that was presented to Parliament on 14 September 1972. Every year since 1975, New Zealand has marked Māori Language Week, and te reo Māori became an official language of Aotearoa in 1987.
The Moderator has sent a message to the church to mark the week. There are also resources to help us all celebrate te reo Māori.
I wonder if we in the Christian community can approach Te Wiki o te Reo Māori Māori Language Week with elements of the Christian principles of repentance, reconciliation and renewal.
