A delightful quiz night

The Mad Hatter’s Quiz Night on 17 November filled our hall with church members and guests. People took enormous care over their hats – some handmade. The winning hats worn by a team of six ‘Planeteers’ were carefully folded from newspaper and adorned with plants.

Ten rounds of questions over two hours challenged twelve teams to a stiff competition, and the result was close. One happy team went off with a massive hamper of Christmas goodies. The evening was marked by convivial banter, respectful points of order and protests, considered rulings by the guest question setter and judge, strategic whispers, more protests and nibbles. Our community engagement director, Greg, was MC and asked the questions. Ticket prices included generous snacks platters on each table. People could BYO.

Thank you to all who supported this fundraiser for parish activities – our many guests and also the church folk who worked so hard to make the evening a success. We’ve decided to donate 10% of our profit to De Paul House.

At the end of the evening, people said they’d had a great time and commented on the warm welcome they’d received. For some attendees, it was their first time in our Hinemoa St building. Thanks, too, to those who opted to join our Friends and supporters database. Read about it and see if you’d like to join.
